Where Are They Now!? Former FC Cincinnati Players Abroad

Intern Luke

I am going to be covering how past FCC players did in their last/current season since the European soccer season has ended recently. I will only be covering players who are playing internationally. I may also have missed some players, but these are all that I could find. I also could not physically watch every single player this last season, so the players I couldn’t watch I will be using fotmob and the internet to provide my information which is subject to being incorrect.

Brazil

  • Álvaro Barreal – Cruzeiro (Serie A)

    • Barreal is currently on loan with a purchase option that we are expecting Cruzeiro to activate. Barreal has played as a left forward, unlike his previous role as a left wing-back with FCC. He currently has 14 appearances with only 2 assists and an average fotmob rating of 6.7. He currently has his team in 6th place in the table with a potential spot in the Copa Libertadores qualifiers.

  • Santiago Arias – Bahia (Serie A)

    • Arias left FCC as a free agent and signed with Bahia. He has played as a right back for the Brazilian team. He has 18 appearances with 1 goal and 1 assist with an average fotmob rating of 7.3. Arias also has been called up by the Colombian national team. He sat on the bench against Spain and the U.S. but played 45 minutes against Romania and scored an assist to help his national team win 3-2.

Costa Rica

  • Allan Cruz – Club Sport Herediano (Primera Division)

    • Allan Cruz in his second season with the club made 41 appearances with 5 in the CCL where he played against Robin Hood and then Pachuca where he did not score or assist. In his 36 regular season appearances for his club, he scored 9 goals and zero assists with an average fotmob rating of 6.8. His team currently sots in 2nd place in the clausura.

  • Kendall Waston – Deportivo Saprissa (Primera Division)

    • Kendall Waston playing with Deportivo Saprissa ever since he left the Orange and blue in 2020 appeared 30 times this last season. He had one 30-minute appearance in the CCL against Philly with no goals or assists. During season play he appeared 29 times scoring 5 goals and no assists. His tea currently sits in 1st in the clausura.

Ecuador

  • Marco Angulo – LDU de Quito (Serie A)

    • Angulo was recently loaned out to LDU de Quito in his home country of Ecuador with a purchase option. He has made 5 appearances in the Copa Libertadores and 6 appearances in league play. He was typically coming off the bench for his club. He did suffer from a cruciate ligament strain where he missed 6 matches. His loan opened the u22 slot for Kevin Kelsy but does still have the opportunity to come back to FCC if his current team does not activate his purchase option. LDU de Quito currently sit in 3rd place.

  • Gustavo Vallecilla – Universidad Católica (Serie A)

    • Vallecilla has appeared 20 times for his team this season with 7 being in the Copa Sudamericana and the rest in league play. During his time in the Copa Sudamericana, he had an average fotmob rating of 7.3. Him and his team sit in 5th place in the table.

England

  • Tyler Blackett – Rotherham United (Championship)

    • Tyler Blackett just finished his second season in the English Championship with 12 appearances and one goal. He was typically a started and finished the season with an average fotmob rating of 6.5. His team did get relegated to League One coming in dead last.

Finland

  • Hassan Ndam – Haka (Veikkausliiga)

    • Ndam has made 7 appearances for Haka, starting in 2 matches and coming off the bench twice for only a few minutes. Haka currently sits in 6th place in the last championship playoff spot.

Germany

  • Franko Kovacevic – Wehen Wiesbaden (Bundesliga 2)

    • Kovacevic has mad 26 appearances with 4 goals this past season with an average fotmob rating of a 6.5. His team was relegated to the third division of German football.

Greece

  • Ronald Matarrita – Aris Thessaloniki FC (Super League 1)

    • Matarrita did not have a successful season by any metric. He made only 5 appearances all season long with an average fotmob rating of 5.6. 4 of his appearances came from Europa conference league qualification and only played a full 90-minute match twice. His team finished 5th in the championship group. He recently announced that he will be playing for hist very first club LD Alajuelense in Costa Rica.

  • Caleb Stanko – Lamia (Super League 1)

    • Stanko had an average season for Lamia helping his team to the championship group in Greece. He appeared in 27 matches for his team with no goals or assists. His team finished 6th in the championship group.

Indonesia

  • Victory Mansaray – PSM Makassar (Liga 1)

    • Victor had an underwhelming season at PSM Makassar scoring 4 goals in 16 matches and leading his team to mid-table.

Ireland

  • Patrick Barret – Shelbourne (Premier Division)

    • Barret has had a successful season in Ireland so far. He has helped his team to be sitting in first place, 22 matches into the season. Finishing in first place would lead the team to champions league qualification. Barret is a starter for the team and has 19 appearances with one assist with an average fotmob rating of 7.1.

Israel

  • Kenneth Saief – Maccabi Haifa (Ligat HaAl)

    • Saief had a solid season for his team. Maccabi Haifa finished second in Israel and earned themselves Europe league qualification. He had 27 appearances with 6.6 average fotmob rating.

Italy

  • Brenner – Udinese (Serie A)

    • Brenner did not seem to particularly enjoy his time in Cincinnati and had European aspirations. This last season his dreams seemed to come true but not exactly what he had imagined. Brenner appeared on the pitch 8 times this past season, 3 of which came at the end of the season when the team was fighting to avoid relegation. In his appearances he didn’t look horrible or anything but just looked invisible. Udinese did avoid relegation but by all accounts, this ended up being a very disappointing season for Brenner.

Mexico

  • Brandon Vazquez – Monterrey (Liga MX)

    • Vazquez started off in Monterrey red hot scoring 8 goals in his first 13 matches. It looked as if he was destined for a big club in Europe. He even knocked FCC out of the champions league as many will remember! Then the rest of the season happened where he finished with only 2 more goals. Vazquez seemingly has a confidence issue. You saw this last year where it felt like he didn’t believe in his own abilities and looked like he couldn’t score. Then all of a sudden, he starts scoring left and right. It is obvious to tell that Brandon has incredible abilities, but it seems that he is holding himself back. Personally, I will be cheering for him next season and hope he can play a full season in his top scoring form.

Netherlands

  • Przemyslaw Tyton – FC Twente (Eredivisie)

    • Tyton is a backup keeper at Twente and only made 2 appearances. In these two games Twente won 2-1 so he was letting in a goal per game. Not too much to talk about here but plays for a third-place finishing team in Netherlands so things could be worse.

  • Kenneth Vermeer – PEC Zwolle (Eredivisie)

    • By all accounts Vermeer plays for PEC Zwolle although his last appearance in a soccer match was for FCC. I can’t find anything else about him other than his 50k salary from his team.

Norway

  • Isaac Atanga – Aalesund (OBOS-ligaen)

    • Atanga plays for Aalesund in the second tier Norway league. His team was relegated the year before and are looking to get relegated again where they are dead last part way through the season. He has been starting and played around 70 minutes a game. He has 12 appearances with 3 goals this season.

Saudi Arabia

  • Junior Moreno – Al Hazem (Saudi Pro League)

    • Moreno appeared 14 times this season starting them all. I wish I had more positive things to say about his season but when your team finishes dead last and gets relegated it’s hard to be positive, but I will try. Moreno joined the team mid-season to an already bad team. He did not have any goals or assists but he had a 6.9 average fotmob rating. I believe he is still very talented and would probably not play in the second division of Saudi Arabia. I think this could possibly lead to a move back to Cincy as maybe a rotation role on a league minimum. He connected well with Acosta and would be a fantastic depth piece. He is currently in Florida for his offseason.

South Korea

  • Harrison Delbridge – Incheon United (K League 1)

    • Incheon is part way through their season and Delbride has appeared 8 times this season. He started 7 of those games and was subbed on for 5 minutes in the other. He has 1 assist and a 6.9 average fotmob rating. His team is currently sitting at the top of the relegation qualification zone.

Spain

  • Yerson Mosquera – Villareal (LaLiga)

    • Mosquera easily had the best season out of all these players. He played for Villareal in LaLiga playing against some of the best teams in the world. This includes Real Madrid and Barcelona where they drew with Madrid and beat Barcelona. Villareal finished 8th in LaLiga just one spot away from Europa league qualification. His performances have also helped him to be called up by the red hot Columbian national team. He is only a backup for his national team currently, but he is still young and has a bright future. Mosquera finishes the season with 18 appearances, 3 goals and 1 assist. Which is the same number of goals and assists as he had for FCC but with significantly less matches played for Villareal. He finished with a 7.1 average fotmob rating. His average was decreased by one game where scored an own goal.

  • Jürgen Locadia – SD Amorebieta (LaLiga 2)

    • Locadia is currently in the second division of Spain with Amorebieta. He made 4 appearances off the bench with no goals or assists to show for it. He had a solid season in China last season but when he is faced against better talent struggles to perform. His team finishes the season in 19th place and were relegated to the third division of Spain.

Sweden

  • Quimi Ordonez – Ostersunds FK (Superettan)

    • Quimi was loaned out to Ostersunds FK in the second division of Sweden with a purchase option. He has started 4 games and came on as a sub in 6 with 2 goals on the season. I think you can start to question his potential. He played good in MLS next pro but seemingly can’t perform at higher levels. If I were managing the team I would hope the Swedish side activate the purchase option to take him off your hands. His team sits in 11th place slightly above relegation.

  • Tom Petterson – Mjallby (Allsvenskan)

    • Petterson plays in the first division of Sweden for Mjallby where so far, he has made 9 appearances. He is performing at a good level for his team scoring 2 assists as a center back this season and a 6.9 average fotmob rating. His team is only 13 matches into the season, but they are sitting in third place with Europa league qualification.

Switzerland

  • Leonardo Bertone – Thun (Challenge League)

    • Bertone plays in the second division of Switzerland with Thun. Bertone had a solid performance this year playing defensive midfield where he has 25 appearances, one goal and five assists with a 7.0 average fotmob rating. He helped lead his team to a second-place finish where his team earned super league qualification. His team did end up losing and will remain in the Challenge League.

Turkey Both Released

  • Dominique Badji – Bandirmaspor (1. Lig)

    • Badji did not have the year he anticipated. After not being resigned by FCC he signed with Bandirmaspor in the second division of Turkey. He only had 8 appearances and had only one goal which was from a penalty. His team finished mid table, but he ended up being released by his team.

  • Adrien Regattin – Eyupspor (1. Lig)

    • Adrien had a solid performance in the midfield this last season. He had 11 appearances with 3 goals and 1 assist. I can’t tell you how it looked other than that because fotmob does not have much data on his matches. His team however was promoted to the Super Lig, but this may have not gone in his favor as he was also released.

After looking at all these players’ seasons, there is a clear trend. The players coming through our team recently have been better than those of the past. You see players like Arias, Barreal, Vazquez, and especially Mosquera who all had or are having good seasons. This to me is clear evidence of improvement in the Front Office. Obviously, some are from the USL days, so you can’t expect them to be that good for that long. Even looking at the MLS players, there has been a clear improvement which bodes well for The FC.
