Pat McAfee and Concafa SC down Nati SC 6-1 in TST group stage play

Well, it was nice while it lasted.

Nati SC was outgunned when they went up against Concafa SC, falling 6-1 in group stage play in the TST.

Concafa, led by former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee, scored early and often, notching their first goal in the 3’ of the match. A theme that would continue for much of the match, the goal came off a deflection before finding its way into the back of the net.

Concafa would add to their score, netting a goal in the 10’ by Eddie Speed on a deflection from a corner kick

Everybody’s least favorite player Brek Shea made an attempt at goal that was deflected by Dallas Jaye, unfortunately into the waiting feet of Thomas Sanner. Concafa were up 3-0 in the 13’.

Things would only get worse for Nati SC when Pat McAfee subbed on and crossed a beautiful pass to Mike Grella, who scissor-kicked a goal past Jaye. Concafa went up 4-0 into halftime.

A brief spot of hope came off the foot of Emmanuel Ledesma in the 24’ of the match, when he rocketed a goal into the back of the net, making the score 4-1.

That was the only bright spot for Nati on the evening, with goals from Gordy Gurson and Stefan Mijatovic to seal the deal 6-1.

Nati SC is now tied with Concafa in the group-stage rankings. Concafa holds the tiebreaker, with a goal differential of +3, while Nati SC has a GD of -2. Nati will take on the Reggae Rovers, who are undefeated in group play and destroyed Burnley FC 7-1 Wednesday night.

If Nati SC wins and Concafa loses, they will automatically be advanced to the knockout stage of the tournament. If they lose and Concafa wins, Nati SC could still advance if they are one of the top eight teams that come in third place. The top eight would be decided by goal differential. Currently, Nati SC sits in that top 8, but they will be facing the team with the highest goal differential in the tournament with the Reggae Rovers.

If Burnley can knock off Concafa, things will become interesting. If Nati SC can beat the Rovers, that would cause Nati to move into second place, guaranteeing them a spot in the knockout round. If Burnley wins and Nati loses, all three teams would be tied and goal differential would be the difference maker.

You can view the third Nati SC match on the TST website at 7:15 p.m. EST.
