Sources: FC Cincinnati Adds Midfield Depth with Tah Brian Anunga

CINCINNATI — According to The Post’s Joseph Meme, FC Cincinnati is expected to be signing free agent Tah Brian Anunga, a 28-year-old defensive midfielder from Yaoundé, Cameroon. The move would add a layer of veteran depth to a position that has lacked experience in recent seasons for The FC.

Anunga spent the past four years with Nashville SC, where he made a name for himself as a reliable and hardworking presence in the center of the pitch. In 2024, Anunga logged 1,400+ minutes, providing defensive stability and a physical edge to Nashville’s midfield. However, Nashville declined his contract option in December, making him a free agent.

Known for his defensive acumen and ability to disrupt opposing attacks, Anunga is expected to provide valuable support for FC Cincinnati’s midfield core. While not anticipated to be a regular starter, his presence will allow head coach Pat Noonan more flexibility in managing the team’s rotation, especially during a busy schedule.

For FC Cincinnati, Anunga’s signing addresses a gap in veteran leadership and depth that has been evident in recent years. The club has leaned heavily on younger midfielders, though rarely playing them, but the addition of a seasoned player like Anunga could prove crucial as the team aims to build on its success and compete at a higher level in the upcoming MLS season.

Anunga began his professional career with the Wilmington Hammerheads in the USL Championship before moving to the Charleston Battery, where he captained the side and cemented his reputation as a midfield enforcer. His move to MLS with Nashville SC in 2020 marked the next step in his journey, and now, he brings that experience to Cincinnati.

Anunga’s signing adds to a productive offseason for FC Cincinnati as the team looks to build on its playoff appearance last year. With the new season fast approaching, the club’s front office has made it clear that adding depth and experience is a priority—and Anunga’s arrival checks both boxes.
